This agreement highlights the abundance of opportunities ASEAN countries have for European companies.

Italian companies D-Orbit, Elettronica and MetaSensing, in coordination with the LANSSET Committee of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore participated in the 15th edition of the Global Space and Technology Convention (GSTC) on February 15th and 16th 2023.

This is the main event for Aerospace companies in Singapore and the ASEAN region, as it provides a platform for the civil and military sectors to discuss technological developments in the industry.

The focus of the convention was on market trends in Asia and the role space technology has in the efforts towards sustainability on Earth, as well as the strategies and technological innovations of the Aerospace industry, a flourishing and rapidly-evolving sector.

Italian participation produces concrete results

On the last day of the Global Space and Technology Convention, space transportation and logistics company D-Orbit announced the signing of a launch contract with Patriot Infovention, a Thai software company that specializes in government assistance services, support, data management, and cybersecurity.

This satellite represents the first foray of Patriot Infovention in the space industry.

“We’re thrilled to have Patriot Infovention onboard one of our upcoming missions,” said Matteo Andreas Lorenzoni, D-Orbit’s Head of Sales. “It is always interesting to explore collaborations with companies that are not from the space industry, understand how our technology can support them and fit within their roadmap; we are truly looking forward to working with Infovention on their first space mission.”

The agreement itself and what it means for the future of trade relations in the ASEAN region

The contract covers the launch and deployment of LOGSATS, a LoRa Gateway Service and Aircraft Tracking 3U CubeSat manufactured by Patriot Infovention. The satellite will represent two very important firsts in Thai history: their first space-based IoT communications systems and their first aviation monitoring system.

“I was glad to welcome Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Trade Relations, S. Iswaran, to the Italian Pavilion at GSTC 2023. He showed great curiosity about cutting-edge technology in our products, such as D-Orbit’s orbital transfer vehicle.” commented Mario Andrea Vattani, Italian Ambassador to Singapore and Brunei.

D-Orbit’s ION Satellite Carrier is a platform with a configurable payload bay that can be equipped with a combination of proprietary or third-party launch dispensers, CubeSat-sized payloads, microsatellites, and instruments like lenses and antennas to be tested in orbit.

Thanks to its propulsion module, ION Satellite Carrier can travel across orbits characterized by different attitude, and local time of ascending node (LTAN) through the course of a mission, and deploy each hosted satellite in a custom orbit. ION can also perform operations on hosted payloads in their optimal operating position.

Patriot Infovention’s satellite will be integrated into one of ION’s upcoming mission scheduled for October 2023.

“With its strong presence in the semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries, as well as its role as a regional hub, Singapore offers great opportunities to our companies,” added Vattani, who then reflected on the impact of this agreement for the future of trade relations in the region, “The signing of the contract between an Italian and a Thai company here in Singapore is a tangible example of how companies can take advantage of developing their business from the City-State towards the dynamic markets of Southeast Asia.”
